Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob Squarepants first aired on Nick Jr on May 1^st 1999, and has become a firm favourite with all the family ever since that date. Spongebob appeals to young children as well as older children and adults, and is especially popular as an image adorning many items of clothing, backpacks, bags, duvets etc.

Spongebob Squarepants is a sea sponge who lives in a pineapple under the ocean at Bikini Bottom, with his pet snail Gary. His best friend is a star fish named Patrick, a not so bright star fish.  There are lots of other characters including  Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks (who cannot breathe in water, so wears a diving style suit).  Sponge-bob and Patrick work for Eugene Krabs who owns The Krusty Krabs Restaurant.  Much of the appeal of Spongebob is his goofy looks, his cheeky grin and the hapless way he and Patrick bumble through things, with child-like humour, although the series is funny to younger and older children with references suitable for different ages in there.
